Is it true what was read about funeral directors? Not necessarily so.
After having read much about funeral directors, their cost, their inconveniences, their non-informative mannerisms, their impositions on mourners who, at the moment, are care-free at a moment of decision, I have come to the conclusion through my experience with Joseph Monahan of Monahan, Cox, Smith & Crimmins at Chapel St. in New Haven, that is doesn’t have to be necessarily so.
When consulted upon the death of my mother, our family met with him in my home, gave him the necessary information, and was taken to the funeral parlor.
He brought us into the hone, (we having had the service of Cox, Smith & Crimmins on two previous experiences), and gave us a complete tour of the Monahan, Cox, Smith & Crimmins Home. The décor, the warmth, the conveniences, the humane atmosphere was incredible.
What was most impressive was that Mr. Monahan left us alone to discuss, consider, and decide, and when called, gave all the considerations and options to enable us to understand what is and what isn’t necessary, erasing the accusations of funeral director’s impositions on mourners.
The explanation of services (many of which we had not had on previous occasions) was another erasure- inconvenience. The final erasure- non-informative-Mr. Monahan Said, “Think before you decide, don’t make rash decisions, and consider all the conclusions can be met with adjustments to your means.”
He was an interested, considerate director with brotherly compassion and humanitarianism.
He partook of each emotion, while we sat back and said, “How did he know, who told him?” We didn’t have to do a thing except feel a sense of security.
It would be a most difficult to try to express in this day and age of commercialized, economical imposition, where greed prevails, the sentiments we share about Monahan, Cox, Smith & Crimmins. M-Merciful, C-Care, S-Sentiment, C-Considerate.
